The Village exist to enrich the artistic and communal experience of our community.
We acknowledge that there has been historical underrepresentation and systemic exclusion of Black and African art music and its practitioners. Black Music being performed or included in programming by organizations who have no representation of original perspectives either in leadership, in creation or in artistic direction. While we see the effort and in most cases, the genuine desire to serve a broader audience, the outcome can be both a lack of indepth or genuine artistic expression and/or the ability to reach the community it may have been designed for. We take on this call as a matter of urgency not to show how it's done but really to pull the community together, share rich and genuine work by, with and for primarily the black diaspora audience. We believe that if nothing is done about this, there will be further identity crisis and lack of rootedness for black music artists, the black community and the next generation and the next, and the next. We want them to identify with and reclaim this heritage of artistic excellence that is possible within the community.

We exist to meaningfully fill the gap between college and the stage, offering hands-on, real-time mentorship to bring the artist to the community in ways most meaningful to the artist

A Creative Community
Providing safe space where the community is not merely a consumer but an active contributor to what is experienced and is able to participate in creativity through festivals, open mics, jam sessions and artists talks.
